"They got pretty close, and then the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were dropped, so they lost their power. But if they had still somehow managed to beat the British in India under Bose. What would India have been like? Would they have attempted to somehow control India? Would India's culture be significantly different? How would it impact religions – Hinduism and Islam accounting for a majority of the population would that have changed?…." Main page link Amicalement Armand |

In 1945? Probably little cultural impact. Could possibly have hastened Britain's departure as their inability to protect the country would hinder their return. Which has all sorts of implications on any future separation of Pakistan/Muslim areas from India. My two cents. |

By 1945 the Japanese had a lot more pressing issues besides what country to invade next. Like feeding themselves and just staying alive. |

1945 – not going to happen. 1942-43 they had a definite chance. |

By 1945 the Japanese had a lot more pressing issues besides what country to invade next. Like feeding themselves and just staying alive. Yes, and no. It is rather remarkable how much of the independent warlord motif can be seen in the behavior of the various Japanese field armies. From Nomonhan (Khalkin Gol) in 1938/39 to Burma / India in 1944/45, the Japanese field armies seemed only vaguely aware or concerned with the national political leadership and/or Pacific campaigns. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

In 1945??!! The Japanese got "pretty close" to the border. A "successful invasion" is a conquest, and it wasn't remotely possible. What if Martians had landed or the dead had risen as zombies? This guy must think India is about the size of Ohio. |

By March, hadn't the British already retaken Burma? |

It's a silly question. The Japanese were in no position to invade India in 1945. |

Invaded, yes, conquered, no. |

They tried unsuccessfully in '44. Sometimes referred to as the Imphal-Kohima offensive. Some call it the IJFs' Ardennes Offensive. With a similar outcome. Even by '45 if they didn't attack in '44, they didn't have the assets and had many other problems. |
