If you buy one of the "toobs", you get one Buffalo for about $10.00 USD. You might try Wally World or discout stores that get a lot of stuff from china, and see if you can buy a bucket of animals that contain some Buffalos.

Or you can check ebay and see what is available.

If you can get to one of the HMGS cons, B&V traders now handles the Iron Wind line at the cons. They normally have a series of "by weight" bins of various types. A Mech box, a human warrior box, among others, and an animals box. Its been a while since I checked into them, but some years back I got a boat load of 25 Buffalo from the animals bin.

FWIW.

B&V traders will likely be at Call to Arms in Williamsburg in October, but you'll have to contact them about bringing Buffalo as they don't normally bring the IW stuff to the WBurg cons.

B&V traders will likely be at Fall In in Valley Forge in November. They should have the full line there.

Check plastic toy soldier sites like "Plastic Soldier Company" or "Classic Toy Soldiers". They sell re issues of stuff that include animals.

Technically, they are called Bison, so look under that as well…

If you go on ebay and search for 1/72 bison, you'll find several of the Atlantic Bison Hunt sets. These sets are priced from about $10 USD to almost $25 USD per set. Not sure how many bison per set but glancing at the sprues, I would guess maybe 10 per set, plus some Indians and horses.

There's also a Buffalo Bill set that has about 25 bison and one looks to be complete of the Buffalo hunt that looks to have 30+ bison. Both of these were priced 21 or 22 dollars I believe.

There are tons of great buffalo miniatures available. I just completed a project that required 42 buffalo. None of them are super cheap. All of them cost $2.50 USD-6.00 each per figure.

I tried five different manufacturers
West Wind Miniatures through Old Glory offers five buffalo for $15 USD, less if you are an Old Glory Army member. I like these figures a lot.

Foundry has some very nice buffalo, but they are spendy and they are a pain in the ass to order from.

Dixon offers a couple of buffalo, for about four bucks a pop. They are nice miniatures but noticeably smaller than all the other figures I bought.

Monday Knight Productions offers a really nice buffalo from their Desperado range. Two for eight bucks. Nice size, a little less detail than the others, but I like 'em.

The best buffalo, in my view, are Acheson's Steppe Buffalo. They are large, and the detail is gorgeous. At six dollars they are the most expensive I bought. They were just a joy to paint.

I wrote a blog post about my Buffalo Hunt project here;
