Looks like we are in need of the following items for the Soviets, for Cold War wargaming in 1/144th scale:

2S3 152mm self-propelled howitzers for the Tank and Motor Rifle Regiments/Divisions.

Soviet Sagger Teams – ground troops firing the suitcase Saggers. Also very useful for the Egyptians during the 1973 War (perhaps the Syrians too?).

Obviously, I suspect there's a lot of other items needed in this scale too, for various nations, but those are the two that immediately stand out for me for the Soviets/Russians, and/or their allies.

Still interested in the little Spz Kurz with 20mm cannon, the 81mm mortar carrier, and the Beob vehicle too, for the West Germans. Definitely need the Jagdpanzer Rakete with SS-11 missiles, and the later, slightly uparmored, Jaguar 1 with HOT ATGM. Could use a Leopard Bridge Layer, and Munga (jeep) as well.

I see Minifigs has released T-55, and M-48 based bridge layers recently.

For the USA, would love to see the 151 MUTT (jeep) released, with several variants – MGs, ATGMs, 60mm Mortar, and RRs, if appropriate.

Could use some early, Western, ground-mount ATGMs too, like the Bantam, SS-11, etc..

While I'm posting, does anyone know if 6 or 8 x 2S1s, and/or 2S3s are more appropriate for the various units?

Most TO&Es I've run across mention 6 x vehicles, but I seem to recall some sources mention 8 as a possibility too. Don't know how widespread that would be, and for which units.

Feel free to add in other items you'd like to see produced in this scale as well, for your Cold War gaming.

Thre are some 2S3's on Shapways but at £84.00 GBP for 4 its bonkers! Cheaper to commision Shipyards if you wanted 4 or more!

UshCha22 Aug 2019 8:40 a.m. PST

Thresher I had a look. Seems a wierd but even 15mm minis have got it wrong. As I understand it the sagger team has 3 men two fireing posts and a sight/joystick. Missiles are about 30m appart and I think the guy shooting is in the middle.

Got any good pictures?

Also how many teams do you want? AOTRS Shipyards is always open to do something if there is a good market.

My list has gon down I now have a Mk 19 Gerade Launcher and an MG42 on tripod and proably a GPMG on tripod.

SPG-9 still in use! Horrible stance of the gunner to model.

Soviet helicopters! The Eastern Express 1/144 Hip & Halo are going for silly money at the moment. And a GR3.

Might nag BPM….

Sorry, no good pictures, but that one provided by another person looks to be quite good.

Given table scales, I'm fine with either the missiles on the same base as the troops, or as a separate one.

May be using 1" = 50m for scale, so a 1" base will be fine.

Might consider 1" = 25m (1mm = 1m) too, if the table space permits for some games.

Let's say two missile launchers per stand, and 2 or 4 per missile controller.

I suspect I need enough Sagger troops for a company, and/or battalion of troops. Need to look up how many Sagger teams that is for those, at 1:1 ratio of minis to real guys.

Perhaps some troops walking and carrying the cases, but I'd want most in the firing mode setup. Let's say 100% of them for the above units firing, and perhaps an additional 33% (1/3rd) in advancing mode, carrying these.

Guys lying prone and controlling the missiles would probably be best, though some in prepared positions (foxholes/trenches) would be useful too.

Yea, %100+ for 4 x 1/144th scale vehicles is pretty crazy. Easier to just declare the 2S1s are 2S3s at the beginning of the game to everyone, since they look pretty similar.

Would like to have some of the real thing in 1/144th, in metal, too though.

Thresher,
Troops on same base is counter to the actual deployement. 1 man and the missiles proably on a 20mm base, i.e. 1 man and missiles abount7mm (7 yds) either side of the operator) at 1mm=1m The other two will need to be 50 to 200mm infromt (50 to 200mm forward) with RPG's. So needs at least another base else you fall into fantasy land with over dence troops, a personal pet hate. Even napolionic players get frontages right! You could glue it all an the right sized base but its a bit big at 200mm deep, still even that is better than daft dispositions.

See Extra crispys link from the other thread:-

Now whether you can tell and RPG 7 from somthing else RPG like is debateable at 1/144. In which case I have simple 3D print of RPG gunners At wargames ranges you can't tell much and being close to real scale there can be no detail on uniform you can't see scale detail at size. But they do look like they fit into the vehicles which to me is far more important.

That may just leave the saggers and a prone guy with a pipe sticking up for the operator.

Personally I hate metal, nothing good to be said about it. Trying slowly to expunge it from my army ;-).

The Shipyards already do the Munga, so that's one.

Jagdpanzer Rakete with SS-11 missiles

Raketenjagdpanzer-1 or Raketenjagdpanzer-2…? There may be, like one technical drawing for each which might make the just about viable to be done. Maybe.

2S3 Akatsiya at least seems to have enough sources to be attempted, so it can be added to my list.

Same problem with the Kurz as everytime it gets mentioned; still the complete and total lack of any kind of technical drawing or blueprintd, which means it's a nonstarter (unless anyone can provide one). I can do a fair bit by eye, but without even a rough guide, I can't even begin (impossible to size it, for a start).

Thresher0124 Aug 2019 8:34 a.m. PST

True, for using the 1" = 25yds/meters scale.

If using the 1" = 50yds/m then you could put the guy and launcher on the same base, though it might look a little crowded. Missie(s) diagonally to the front of perhaps just one guy controlling the missile for launch on the same base.

I agree though, perhaps the 2 – 3 guys on one base, and 2 missiles on a separate base x 2 per launcher team, just for grins. That way, we can array as desired.

No need for the RPGs for me, since I already have those in metal.

Thanks for the info on the Munga. I appreciate that.

Good to hear on the RktJgr.

I'll check my 1/100th scale collection, and see if I can provide dimensions for you, if that will be of help, for the SpzKurz. I should be able to do the mathematical conversions for that, along with on-line base dimensions too.

I haven't found a blueprint, or good line drawing of it, as I seem to recall.

@Thresher01 Just so you personally know, this forum is no longer my primary focus and I won't be checking it, so if you post any more requests/suggestions here, I won't see it from this point fowards.
