It would be more surprising if they didn't find any old bombs ! Many places in that region are still actively clearing up old mines, etc. Even the PI in some locations, based on what I have seen on a number of shows. Stuff left over mostly from WWII Japanese Forces.

Even in the areas in North Africa, where both sides sowed minefields prodigiously. Now and then a patrol vehicle from one of the nations in the area. Or a local finds of even gets blown up from old mines.

Even on the DMZ in the ROK, there were old minefields marked where they were laid during the Korean War. We had to medevac a local farmer who found an unknown/unmarked one from '53. Back in '84 or'85 when I was on one of my tours our on the DMZ. He lost part of his foot or toe (?)… sadly. None of us got blown up while evacing him. … fortunately

Sounds like business as usual.

It's hardly news here – they find them virtually every day. Lots of the ordnance dropped over SEA was older bombs from as far back as WW2, and as such their UXO rate was pretty high.

I wish they could stop the poorer locals trying to salvage them for scrap with often terminal results.

Cambodia and Laos got even more tonnes per square km…

Only one?

That is surprising.
