14th NJ Vol | 18 Aug 2019 7:43 a.m. PST |
We did the Battle of Ezra Church yesterday using Black Powder w/ the Glory Hallelujah supplement. We changed two rules. One we had no saving roles. Two with Rally command we used the sliding scale of movement roll to allow a general to remove more than a single hit. Each unit had stamina increased by one so all our standard sized units were a 4. The consensus was it played well. Was done in 9 turns. Nothing really wonky came up in play. We've agreed to go forward using these mods. Anyone else try no saving roles. Increases hit percentage from roughly 25% to record 50% in the open. |

Have not played BP, but are you saying that hit percentage was 50% in open? At what range? Seems a bit high from what I can recall for ACW weapons. |

The "hit" and subsequent Morale Save BP are more markers of the combined effect of combat not specifically casualties. Failed Morale Saves causes a unit to take casualty marker which can be removed with a successful Rally order. Normally just one per successful order is removed but 14th NJ's Rally order mod allows the possiblity of removing up to 3 so the two mods have a mitigating effect on each other. |

I never using saving roll they are piontless. If a round or as civies call them bullets it hits you ! bang simple. |

I think it is a means of smoothing out the vagaries of die rolling when you are using only D6's. So although not pointless, perhaps not necessary depending on design. |
