I'm going to try this again. My last post got hit with multiple bugs, and never appeared on the main page. For those with strong constitutions this was it: TMP link Anyone, I just noticed that De Bellis Velitum, a set of ancient skirmish rules from Phil Barker, is for sale on Lulu. Anybody know about this? link Is this like the Horse, Foot and Guns fiasco – that is, just a playtest copy of the rules? Or is it finished? I have an old copy of the playtest 1991 version of DBV that was on Barker's website and would be a bit upset if the printed version is identical to that old version. Is the Lulu version now finished, or perhaps even includes elephants and chariot rules now? The preview on Lulu didn't work for me. |

I believe this to be the nineties playtest version. I am not aware of any work carried out on DBV for many years and would therefore be very wary of spending money unless it is specifically declared as a new version. |

If I recall correctly, it was a skirmish version of DBA written by Dave Kujit, I didn't think it ever became official. |

Hey! I just got the preview on Lulu to work! Now, like Oakley, I hadn't heard of anything happening with DBV for ages. However, it appears that the version on Lulu is different from the 1991 version that was, and still is, on Barker's website. In the preview on Lulu, light and heavy chariots are now mentioned in the troop types, something that was not in the older version. I'm optimistic that if that is different, perhaps chariots and even elephants might have been integrated into the rules now. I'm thinking I just might buy these now, whenever I get a discount code from Lulu. They seem to appear quite regularly. Unless someone knows different, and has perhaps already purchased them? |

Over the years I may have missed out on more recent DB-developments, but when would elephants or heavy chariots ever have been used (or even inclined) to engage in skirmishing? |
