….Craterus on his deathbed, as opposed to "to the strongest"?

"On his deathbed, Alexander the Great was said to have said "to the strongest". This was seen as a go-ahead by most of his generals that they were running his empire now, and in their quest to emulate him began fighting each other a few years after, in a succession of conflicts of which only a few of the Diadochi emerged successful from: Ptolemy in Egypt, Seleucus in Persia and Syria, and the Antigonids in Macedonia and Greece.

But what if Alexander had meant something very different with his last words?

The greek word for "the strongest", kratistos, could've easily been misheard on his deathbed. It has been theorized that Alexander had been meaning to say the name "Krateros", but the generals and officers at Babylon chose to deliberately misinterpret what Alexander had said – because Krateros, or Craterus in English, was not around at the time…."

…then I'd have been stuffed for a name for my rules. :-)

Sam Mustafa has been naming his rules sets after generals, so just use Krateros.

For some reason I do not se any of the Successors being the kind of men who would give a rat's patootie for Alex's final words one way or tuther.

Alexander, tells us please-- who do you leave the empire to?

Perdikkas hears:

"To Kraterus" and swiftly covers Alexander's feverish head with Persian pillow.

"To the Strongest" shouts Perdikkas' aides out the tent.

"To the longest" the Hypaspists shout.

"To the wrongest" the phalanx murmurs.

"To the fungus!" by the time it reaches Athens.
