My freind, Jared Fishman, and one of his graduating students, Dillon, presented a talk on this subject at the Historicon War College, and then ran a Franco-Prussian Wargame later that day. The scenario was designed and playtested and run by members of the Hackley School (Tarrytown, NY) game club.

In the very old days I would run WWII Naval with Alnavco 1/1200 ships and Airfix Napoleonics. Even got part of the football coaching squad involved. Also found Diplomacy a very good tool. Ran that club for 33 years. Kids love it because they can get up, move around and interact and still get a feeling for the point you are trying to make. I know a great many of you have tried it or volunteered to put on a game at school. Good job boys. Spread the gospel. And remember when you kids try to sell off your collection they'll need a market. A middle school teacher who ran wargames as part of a History class told me there was much to be said for cheap soft plastics--big enough for colorful battlefields and hard to damage even when dropped and stepped on.

More power to you. It never worked for me.

When i was at school many years ago we had "wargaming weeks" during the holidays, supported by the History department. 5 or 6 classrooms with at least one big game in each, some battles lasting several days (that was when we could put thousands of Airfix Napoleonic or ACW figures on table)

Jared ran a wargames week later in July with members of the school club, including a Napoleonic "campaign in a Day" style event, but using simplified DBN for the combat resolution.
