So you've bought a modern figure – maybe a gangster, zombie hunter, spy, etc. – and it has a modern firearm. A long gun of some kind.

I think most people see a "gun" and think: paint it metallic, paint the stock 'wood' color, and you're done.

However, a lot of modern firearms don't look like that at all… grin I've seen some really crazy colors on AK-47 knock-offs…

I understand some rifles have been made in pink to appeal to certain elements of the female demographic. Then, there is always Miss Fisher's gold plated revolver.

I paint all my firearms in neon colors. Really surprises them down at the bank when they find out it's not Nerf.

Here's Ninja with the same concept from the movie Chappie:

Painting a firearm in traditional colors does not make it a mistake.

The "old way" is totally appropriate for all military weapons up through the Korean War. Vietnam was right for M-14, then came the black plastic M-16. AK-47 would have been brown wood and metal.

I find some really bizarre weapons colors at gun shows these days.

No matter what color you paint them, it's really hard to get it wrong when it comes to modern firearms: link

Yes, basically modern fire arms are black/gun metal/metallic grey. Some do have wooden stocks as well. I've seen dark brown plastic stocks too.

However some troops e.g. in a desert environment or sniper will camo their weapons with camo paint colors, etc. But not yellow as seen in that pic ! evil grin

Now we do see GW's sad predilection for circus colors for small arms, AFVs, … well … just about everything ! evil grin

The yellow in the picture above could pass for "Dunkelgelb" or dark yellow, of German armor during WWII, at least on my monitor.

H&K for instance offer a couple of 'sand' beige plastic coverings for their weapons as well as black, grey and olive/dark green. Very little metal showing.

For most modern weapons, OD, FDE, Black, or Coyote Brown are the common color options.

I've got most of my Elhiem 20mm moderns with an eclectic mix of colors, circa my own deployment in 08-09.

I usually just paint them black, with a metal wash for non-stocks/handholds (or brown for those parts if warranted…)

@79thPA: It does if the weapon is not available in those colours, or the unit in question did not use them in those colours. I've certainly never heard of an AUG entering legitimate military use with custom wooden furniture, much less a Tavor.

@Kevin C: Research is the key. You can easily go wrong painting a pink pistol in the hands of a 21c USMC officer; just because you can get guns in fashion colours or have them custom-duracoated anything you want or even get vinyl wraps on the civilian market, doesn't mean real soldiers are going to get to go into battle looking like PUBG characters.

@Grelber: There is a colossal overload of pinkish guns, because executives haven't got enough memory to think of fashion colours beyond "girl=pinkish", irrespective of the amount of women who don't really suit pink. Even shotguns in black-and-Zombie-Green cam have the green replaced with hi-vis pink to market the guns to girls; but this is still seriously overselling pink. Kimber, for one, have an extensive range of fashionable colour schemes for men as regards their pistol ranges, but so many manufacturers only have one scheme available for women and that's pink. Only Diamondback seems to have feminine colour schemes to match a tiny fraction of the fashion schemes available for men: link

"…executives haven't got enough memory to think of fashion colours…"

I guess they've never heard that anything can be Bedazzled… ;-)

chironex17 Aug 2019 1:16 a.m. PST

They probably have – but still tend to only ever think of doing so in pinkish schemes.
