Hello all. I will be going a vacation to Ireland Aug10-17, 2019. I was wondering if there are any "awesome" WWII miniature hobby stores that I can stop by a visit and hopefully pick up some things. My group primarily plays BA at 28mm so I am looking for that scale.

Any help would be great.

Where in Ireland will you be?

kevin Major07 Aug 2019 2:13 p.m. PST

It does not matter where in Ireland, online ordering has killed the historical game shop in Ireland.
If you are in Cork the Prinz August factory near Macroom makes you soldiers and can be an interesting visit.
I live in Dublin and buy my BA toys in Nottingham from Warlord.

Hi
there has never been a great selection of shops here to be honest… but if you are in Dublin there should be at least some 28mm plastics in gamersworlddublin.com
A more general map of games shops in Ireland (mostly no miniatures) is here:

The Hobbyden in Kildare Town stocks some Warlord stuff… and a few 28mm bits.but is mainly focused on 1/72 and models.

Thanks for the information. We will be in Dublin for a couple of days, then to Galway for 2 days then finally to Cork for a couple of days. Basically doing a loop in the southern part of the country.

If you can try taking a 1916 Dublin walking tour. You will get a sense of irish history while strolling the centre of Dublin. If that has wet you interest Kilmanham Jail is worth the visit, more history but human interest stories.
If you are driving to Galway Athlone Castle in the middle of Athlone is worth breaking the journey for.

The Gathering in Limerick city centre is a small, friendly hobby store that stocks Warlord products.

Hobby Den in Kildare, mentioned above, is on the Dublin to Galway route.

The online store Hobby Mad has lots of Bolt Action. It is Cork based i think so you might be able to arrange something.

Have a nice trip.
Ps some historic spots for your roadtrip: St. Patricks Cathedral Dublin (full of 19th/20th century war memorials), Collins Barracks Museum, Dublin. the Curragh Camp military museum, Kildare. Cahir Castle, Tipperary (great model diorama of the 1599 siege/assault in the Nine Years War).

Bonnaught, thank you as well.

I my spare time I do Seven Years War reenacting. So while we are in Cork I contacted Fort Charles to see if they had any documentation about the 42nd Royal Highlanders were stationed in Cork during the Irish establishment. The only records I coukd find were not clear on if they were at Fort Charles or in troop ships in the harbor.

In fact the Boss(wife) already called dibs on St Patricks.

Far better things to do there than search for non-existent gaming shops. :-)
