General d'Armee players, how do you base your troops? What do you like about it? What would you do differently? |
Fried Flintstone | 07 Aug 2019 4:24 p.m. PST |
I'm doing it right now. Basing infantry at 72 figures per battalion and cavalry at 36 figures. Infantry – 2 bases of 6x2cm and 2 bases of 3x2cm Cavalry – 4 bases of 8x2cm |

The more figures the better! I put 36-72 foot figures per base for my Waterloo army. You can see them here. 6mm.wargaming.info/page8.shtml I haven't added a separate Prussian page but you can see them in the Waterloo battle report. Also you can see all the French and some British my friend did here. He did a wonderful job on them. link |

Enjoyed them both. Thank you! |

Kmahony – I think you are basing at the brigade level? Do you use them with GdA rules? |
Glenn Pearce | 08 Aug 2019 3:52 p.m. PST |
I think there might be some confusion here kmahony111 website refers to "Grand Armee", Zabarr wants 6mm information on "General d'Armee", two completely different rule sets. |

Hello Teppsta! Are you basing for GdA or GA? If GdA, is 6mm basing in the rules, or are you customizing the basing to fit your own design? Thanks, Glenn |

The basing I use for Pickett's Charge is the 15mm sized bases with 2 to 3 times as many figures So 1"/25mm bases with 8-10 foot in two ranks, 4 cavalry in 1 rank and one gun. You can get two guns on a 30mm base (just). The same approach should suit Gd'A Cheers David |

My infantry are based on 3 30x15mm bases per battalion with 36 to 40 figures per battalion. Cavalry are 3 30x30 bases 20 figures per regt, and guns and limbers each on 15x30 bases each, several are on 30 x 30 with 2 models. They were originally rebased onto this size for Principles of War, but I wasn't a fan of the rules for this period, however the basing works fine for GDA Oops nearly forgot, the only extras I did for GDA were skirmisher bases, 3 figures skirmishing on a 30x15. |

Yes sorry! I was referring to Grand Armee by Sam Mustafa. Didn't read the title closely enough. |

Glenn The basing I am using is close to regular 15mm base sizes modified just a little for Baccus strip sizes. It was discussed at length with the author so pretty happy it is at least semi official 😉 I am looking to get the effect of "massed" formations on the table – so approximately 1:10 ratio |

Thanks everyone for the advice. Do I need to concern myself with relative frontage between infantry, cavalry, and artillery? Should infantry and cavalry use the same base sizes? I know there's mention in the rules of not having artillery be on too small of a frontage. Any guidance or suggestions? |

Hello Teppsta! Thanks for answering my posting. I was curious to see if I could use my Polemos basing which is 6cm x 3cm supported by 3cm x 3cm. Looks like they would work out fine for Gd'A. There is nothing like masses of Baccus 6mm troops on a table. Nice goal! Best regards, Glenn |
