Many thanks to all the players and umpires who took part in our Hue game at the Claymore show in Edinburgh last week, and a big 'hats off' to Gringo40, Empress and Full Metal Miniatures for making so many figures that were just perfect for the the project. There's pics on our FB page 'S.P.I.T. Wargames'…SPIT stands for 'Stupid Projects In Twentyeightmil'. |

Scotland is much less humid than SE Asia AFAIK … |
uglyfatbloke | 07 Aug 2019 8:59 a.m. PST |
Sorry Legion4…don't get it? Mind you, looking out my window at some traditional Scottish summer weather (rain) maybe there's more in common than one might think. |
Legion 4 | 07 Aug 2019 1:51 p.m. PST |
Well I think SE Asia being a tropical environment would be much more humid than Scotland ? |
robert piepenbrink | 07 Aug 2019 5:27 p.m. PST |
Legion 4, have you ever been to Scotland? My time was limited, but especially in the highland zone, it was as though they had sprinklers permanently set to "mist"--not "fine" mist, either, but real mist. The local property owners seem to live in a state or perpetual war with moss and rising damp. You can see why the inhabitants have put so much time and effort in developing a little something to take off the chill. |
Yellow Admiral | 07 Aug 2019 9:33 p.m. PST |
There is high humidity in lots of non-tropical places. There are temperate rain forests too, and the year-round humidity in the microclimate at my house in sunny, semi-arid, Mediterranean-climate California is high enough to keep us at war with molds, mildews, and moss mats trying to cover our roofs and driveway. I don't understand why humidity even came up in this conversation. What prompted the comment about SE Asia? |

The S.P.I.T. games look awesome. There are a lot of people in my club that should really be doing something similar. We have a lot of nice 28mm miniatures and terrain sitting in closets around here. FWIW – to view the S.P.I.T Wargames group, one must join the Facebook group. Since I was allowed to join, I'm assuming just about anyone can. That could eventually dilute the postings with lots of off-topic banter. Is that what you want? It might be a better idea to make the group postings publicly viewable without joining. - Ix |

I believe that Legion is doing a take off on Hue, Vietnam. It is a city well known to us who grew up during the Vietnam war or who took part in the fighting. Hue was one of the bloodiest battles of the war. |
Legion 4 | 08 Aug 2019 7:36 a.m. PST |
Never been to Scotland or Hue. But I have been to the jungles of Central America and forests or[West] Germany. As well as the ROK, the Mojave and many other places in the USA. So I generally know the climatic differences … Being a Grunt, you are directly effective by the weather. You are basically too hot, too wet, too dirty, too cold, etc., etc., too tired, etc. But yes Marc understands what else I was getting at. Sometimes my sense of humor is an acquired taste. |
Yellow Admiral | 08 Aug 2019 1:56 p.m. PST |
So it was just a pun on "Hue-midity"? <groan> As further pun-ishment, I'm going to beat this dead horse some more. Edinburgh in Scotland has higher average humidity than Hue in Vietnam:

Edinburgh also has more rainy days than Hue (191 vs. 145):

Now go recite Wealth of Nations until you finish consuming an entire haggis, and we'll call it even. - Ix |
Yellow Admiral | 08 Aug 2019 2:14 p.m. PST |
PS: Does anyone serve haggis at S.P.I.T. events? |
robert piepenbrink | 08 Aug 2019 5:50 p.m. PST |
My apologies, Legion. I do know better--on my good days, anyway--but my normal response to "Hue in Scotland" would be "hodden gray?" |
Legion 4 | 09 Aug 2019 7:05 a.m. PST |
Had no idea that Scotland has more rain & humidity than Hue Vietnam !?!? I know from my experience as I noted, I didn't think a tropical environ would be less humid & wet than the UK ! I stand corrected. But I won't eat haggis … for any reason. Like Korean Kimchi … there are some things I just won't do !!! I'm going to have to go with your assessment Robert … as I said I have never been to Scotland. So
|
Yellow Admiral | 09 Aug 2019 11:23 p.m. PST |
The one time I had haggis (at a Robert Burns Birthday dinner celebration) I went back for a third helping. I would have gone back again, but it was gone by then…. I'm sure, like all foods, there's good haggis and bad haggis, but I haven't a clue how one would tell. - Ix PS: I like kimchi, but it hates me, so I have to avoid it. Life is just unfair sometimes. |

Humidity is one thing; temperature is another. Humidity + high temperature can be BRUTAL. Check the average annual temperature ranges of Hue and Edinburgh. B |
Legion 4 | 10 Aug 2019 11:05 a.m. PST |
I like kimchi
Check the average annual temperature ranges of Hue and Edinburgh. Yeah like I said … Scotland ain't tropical … AFAIK ! I've seen pictures and movies of Scotland … and no palms trees or rice paddies any where ! |
Yellow Admiral | 11 Aug 2019 2:18 p.m. PST |
The Gulf Stream apparently makes parts of Western Scotland warm enough to grow palm trees: link That's a far cry from palm forests, but it does say something about local temperature and moisture. - Ix |
Legion 4 | 11 Aug 2019 2:44 p.m. PST |
Who knew !!!! Of course there are all types of Flora[and Fauna too!] in a jungle beyond but including palm trees … However … Don't think the US Army will be moving the Jungle Warfare Training Center to Scotland anytime soon though … |

Haggis and Kimchi together would probably work quite well! |
Andy ONeill | 14 Aug 2019 11:55 a.m. PST |
Is that a wild haggis, or a farmed one? |
Legion 4 | 15 Aug 2019 6:16 a.m. PST |
Those two "dishes" together could be considered a WMD ! |

Relative humidity is not as important as the dew point for comfort. Given that the temperatures in Hue are probably much higher, thus the air can hold much more moisture than in Edinburgh. So evens lower "relative humidity " will have much more moisture, (and cause discomfort) than a higher relative humidity of a cooler temperature. Relative humidity = red herring. |
Legion 4 | 17 Aug 2019 4:31 a.m. PST |
Like I said … jungles are hot & humid … |
