Has anyone any information on the range of Revell 1/72nd plastic figures? It was relatively extensive but they seem to be harder to find now and Revell themselves dont appear to be re releasing them anytime soon unless anyone knows any different?

I understood that Revell have ceased production of their figures due to the age of the moulds. They are often on eBay

Which sets are you after – I may have spares

Interesting information. I think I sometimes forget how long Revell 1/72nd figures have been in circulation. Thanks for the offer Marc. I was after the WW2 British infantry, Afrika Korps and 'Scottish' 8th Army sets to supplement my North Africa 1/72nd plastics project. I will scour Ebay etc and will amit still come across sets in the more specialist model shops.

I'm afraid eBay is your friend here, but I might have some spares floating around. I just use Airfix Type 1s but my battalion command groups are from various sets to differentiate them, so you may not get any officers!

German and Italian are well catered for through Italeri, Esci, Waterloo 1815 and the like but 8th Army are sparse!

Jeffers02 Aug 2019 10:29 a.m. PST

In that case, Kingkit is your friend….

ebay is your only hope all other sources I will keep to myself. Besides, Italeri/Zvezda sculpts are better. DO NOT GET suckered by those named A Call to Arms or House of Campaign or whatever it is; their figs are just as bad as Airfix (mostly). AVOID AVOID AVOID

If you are going for the Revell Scottish 8th Army set, then get the new Strelets 8th Army Heavy Weapons set:

and the Esci 8th Army (Italeri AND Revell rereleased these):

They all match each other quite well:

Here is a list:

Personally, the Matchbox set is my favourite, but those other three will do you well. (the Airfix set will also work well with the above 3, too)

Jeffers, that King Kit is pretty cool! You can get all 5 sets through them.

I have to agree. That link is excellent! Also thanks to WMyers for the comparison info. Appreciated.

I was after the WW2 British infantry, Afrika Korps and 'Scottish' 8th Army sets to supplement my North Africa 1/72nd plastics project.

For North Africa, you probably won't want to get the Revell British Infantry set. It is late war, with all of the figures wearing the Mk III "Turtle" helmet issued after D-Day and not suitable for the desert war.

The only attractive distinction of the Revell late war set used to be that it included some weapons hard to get in plastic, such as the 2" mortar. But HäT Industrie now makes a very good one, (four to a box in the WW2 British Mortars set 8227) so no need to get the Revell set for that purpose.

I endorse the recommendations made by wmyers.

A bit late of a reply, but Hat also makes machine gun sections!

It's really infantry support weapons with anti tank rifle, flamethrower, Brens, piat, range finder/spotter.

…but Hat also makes machine gun sections!

That set is almost impossible to obtain these days…
