Next weekend in Ypsilanti Michigan @ Willow run airport will be Thunder over Michigan featuring a collection of Corsairs (12 at this point) and many other flying planes, B-17G, B-25, C-47 P-51s and many others. Also they have WWII vehicles & re-en-actors. This is put on by the "Yankee Air Museum" to raise funds to keep the museum running & finish converting a portion of the original B-24 factory from WWII. See link below. I am a member & have been to many shows, always worthwhile seeing the flyers & the static displays. I am suspecting all these aircraft are in a circuit but I am glad they are, well worth seeing them. A Corsair at Reading Pa couple of months ago put on a show. |

I was at a Lowe's in Louisville, KY a number of years ago, and the building started to vibrate to the sound of a low throbbing. I went outside just in time to see the cause: A B-17 passing overhead. It was in town for an air show that was part of the Kentucky Derby Festival. I can't imagine what it must have been like to see and hear entire squadrons of them passing overhead |

Any time you can see a B-17G or other US WWII heavy bomber flying, you should consider it a real treat, since I'm not sure how much longer they can be doing that. Hope I'm wrong, but they are rather rare, and very old birds. |

At last count there were about 15 flying B-17s. I live about a mile from Willow Run & hear the flying bombers frequently as they give rides on them, |

I can't imagine what it must have been like to see and hear entire squadrons of them passing overhead A lot would depend on whether they were coming or going! My father told me the skies over the island he worked on in the Pacific were sometimes black with planes headed toward Japan, which they cheered lustily. |
