I use an H&S Ultra as a workhorse and an Infinity for detail work. Best airbrushes ever in my opinion

There isn't going to be just one answer. You have to weigh cost vs performance vs ease of cleaning vs flexibility.

That being said, my Iwata Revolution CR is a great balance of all these. In any case, make sure you get a double-action brush.

One you will actually use

Lots of good airbrushes, I use Iwata, have two, one is over 30 years old. Buy the quietest compressor that you can afford. It must have a tank and a moisture trap.

As my first airbrush I got a Badger (forget which model) a few years ago and didn't have much luck with it. It was very prone to clogging, no matter how diligent I was about cleaning it. At some point I actually dismantled the entire thing, soaked all of the parts and it still wouldn't spray after I put it back together. I then bought an Iwata Revolution and it's been a night and day difference. Rarely clogs and easy to clean when it does.

I have a Badger Patriot and Sotar. Never had any issues with either and love them. You really need a tank and moisture trap and to keep them clean. Extra needles if you are prone to dropping them are also helpful. As Mark mentioned, you need to use them for them to pay off.

I have had good luck with a Paasche airbrush:

Seems like a good quality airbrush.

All the airbrushes mentioned are good. Like anything else, airbrushing is an acquired skill, and this skill will trump any minor differences between most airbrush manufacturers.

In any case, make sure you get a double-action brush.

Yep!

Buy the quietest compressor that you can afford. It must have a tank and a moisture trap

And the ability to adjust air pressure.
