I decided to give this free rules set a spin: link

Have you tried these rules? What are your thoughts on them?

Just reading them there are definitely some ideas there, but with little command-control I think some of the challenge of the large battle is lost.
I of course immediately thought how to apply it to another period – it might suit my 6mm Franco-Prussians, but I guess it might have to be 4x4 :)

I tried them a while back.

I really liked the firing/pinned concept and incorporated it into my own homebrew big battle rules. It does force you to use reserves in a more realistic way than a lot of rules!

I tried them a few years back. Not overwhelmed by the combat system but that is easily fixed, but I really like the idea that the dynamic of Battle is determined by the arrival of reinforcements. Makes a change from just lining them up.

I downloaded them immediately. I need something for my 2mm Napoleonics. If they're flawed--well, it's usually faster to fix something than to build something from scratch.

For 2 x 2 try DBN by KISR

I tried DBN several times and didn't like it. The rigorous base to base grouping mechanic to save pips doesn't feel very Napoleonic to me in that scale. It would fit SYW better I think.
