"CBS have given us our first look at the characters from the forthcoming new animated comedy Star Trek series, Lower Decks. The first season has been confirmed as being ten episodes long, and starting in 2020. Continue below to check them all out:

Revealed at the San Diego Comic Con today, and as previously hinted, the series will focus on a group of lower rank crew members working in the background on a "not important starship". The main characters will be a group of four ensigns aboard the California class USS Cerritos (a new and as yet unseen design), a Starfleet support ship:…"

I'm with Zulupaul here. I can only assume they think they will somehow undercut 'Orville' as a comedy, but Orville is so much more than that.

Preface this that I have only seen The Orville season one.

If CBS thinks it is going to chase The Orville's tail into a successful series, they're actually trying to chase a ghost into a fogbank.

TO was supposed to be some sort of Star Trek inspired comedy.

From what I saw in Season 1, TO couldn't quite make up its' mind what it was trying to be. Comedy, parody, reboot,…homage…? The bizarre thing was that no matter what it was doing, it was doing it really well.

CBS is going to play merry hell trying to staple that to a tree.

Latchcomb!!!

I agree with KP.

Not sure much/most of it is "comedy", at least to my taste.

My immediate thought was that the concept of useless lower rank crew has been very well covered by Red Dwarf.

A smarter move would be an animated show about the extremely competent lower deck crew of the Orville

M'right?

It would be fun to see the Orville rescue the crew of the Red Dwarf & incorporate them into the crew. Kryten would be in heaven doing their laundry. ;-)

"a Starfleet support ship:…"

So we'll finally see a United Federation Sanitation Patrol Cruiser…? ;-)
