You were asked – TMP link

How many miniatures do you prefer in a single game on each side?

Average response: 495 figures/models

Zeelow22 Jul 2019 1:09 p.m. PST

20 total each side + citizens and animals. Did you know that @10 sheep in a field when the explosions start going off can seriously injure you if you are crawling thru the field. It's the truth.

Let's try again.

31% said "other" "this is ridiculous" or something similar.
37% opted for 200 or fewer.
31% opted for 300 or more.

So I think we can put both the 500-figure SAGA warband and the 20-stand 2mm army on hold for right now.

Zeelow22 Jul 2019 2:00 p.m. PST

Hah! My subjects are 15mm glorious figures based individually.
The only time they stand is when they get up from a nap, are running, jumping, climbing, or shooting while standing or running.

I like lots and lots of figs

But, then again, except for my glorious SYW 28mm armies, most of my big battles are in 6mm or 15mm

Median figure gives a better result in my opinion.

600 in 28mm, if there are at least 5-6 players.depends on players and period.

494 per side make me sense the tabletop as empty, otherwise 496 are too difficult to handle – so 495 is OK to me.

(Apologies, I couldn't resist)

I strongly suspect not all the answers offered were delivered with the gravity one would have liked to see.

Max 200 per player if mounted on stands of 4 figures per atand. 50 figures per player if skirmish.

Each player has to have a playable command. One that they can handle. So that could be a battalion or a division depending on scale and player experience with the rules. Or the difference between a platoon and a company.

When we played "Over the Top" I would not have wanted anything less than a regiment.

Honestly I read in battle magazine (I kid you not) the accepted range was 300-350 per side. After 44 years? (Oh my GOD I'm old). I think that is actually a good range to shoot for. It was recommended at 2-3 generals' per side.
