Long story, but assembling maps of historical last stands--battalions or fewer against heavy odds, and not in the open. So far I've got the Alamo, Cammerone, Rorke's Drift, "Beatrice" from Dien Bien Phu, and Chew House ("Cliveden") from Germantown. (a) can anyone suggest where I'd find a map down to window/door/stair level for some fraction of a WWII urban fight like Arnhem, Stalingrad, Monte Cassino or Berlin? (b) I remember a last stand in a church during the ECW, but I can't remember the battle, let alone the church. (c) What would anyone care to add to the list, whether you have the map or not, if a map might be had? Thank you all. |

The ECW church was in Alton. Another might be Newcastle's Whitecoats at Marston Moor. |

I believe the ECW church you are referring to is Alton Church. Donald Featherstone has a chapter in his War Game Campaigns book beginning on page 117. Alton Church is still there, bullet holes and all. Wikipedia link: link |

The siege of the legations in Peking is pretty well documented with maps and oob's. |

Fort Necessity, Washington's inauspicious beginning. Wake Island. More wet than dry, but a possible candidate. The siege of Fort 96. Tehopica/Horseshoe Bend. 3/27/1814. Westerplatte. Masada. Jadotville. Too big? Monte Cassino Bataan/Corregidor Tsingtao 1914
Too small? John Wilkes Booth in that barn Just some ideas. |

There are a number of last stands in churches during the ECW,off the top of my head I can think of Acton Church (battle of Nantwich). The most famous being Alton Church (pics of the musket ball marks on the door link ). |
