I ran a fun game at Historicon that depicted Japanese attacking Americans in 1941. See more pictures here: bucksurdu.com/blog/?p=9000 |

Interesting game. The early war Philippine Campaign isn't gamed too often however it can make for some interesting scenarios. Americans have a lot of firepower and defensive positions but the Japanese can have armor, infiltration abilities and high morale. Similar conditions exist for Malaya and Burma 1942. All three are different from island hopping later in the war where the Japanese are dug in on the defensive against overwhelming firepower. If I may ask, where did you get the bamboo plants? |

Yes, I like this early period for gaming. Rooting Japanese out of holes doesn't provide me much joy. The bamboo are orders from some Chinese web site. I don't recall what it was, but a quick google will locate it. |

Actually the US forces had rather poor firepower. Few companies had more than one BAR and M1 Garands hadn't been issued to them yet. Then in regards the mortars they had the then new 81mm tubes but 3" rounds which could be fired from the 81mm tube but with much reduced range and accuracy. |

jdginaz, Your information/sources may be better than mine but it is my understanding that most of the Army units in the Philippines had been issued with M1s as well as some of the Philippine Scout units. Japanese units were surprised by the volume of fire when first encountering M1 armed units. M1 ammo was a problem after the initial clashes. It was 30-06 like the Springfield but much of the stores were in Springfield clips and had to be transferred to M1 clips by hand. |
