A catalogue of Cannon's 'Historical Records' of the British regiments available on Gutenberg.org, in order of popularity. Only 28 from the aprox 70 histories that were published in the series (ca. 1837-53), which was never completed. This was the first project, begun in the 1830s to publish 'an account of the services of every regiment in the British Army' in furtherance with the initiative launched in 1822 by the Duke of York to create a National Military Record 'with a view of preserving a remembrance of the particular service and achievements of the British Army.' Of variable quality and reliability but Cannon remains the starting point of most regimental histories. link |

Most of the series can be found on archive.org. Cannon + "Historical record of [number of regiment in letters, hyphenated where necessary]' usually works in a search. - but this collection on Gutenberg is certainly very handy.
