German tank crews blew up the most German tanks. Who else made tanks with a self-destructing demo charge? Wolfhag |

Can't think of any other tanks that had a specific charge. The idea of destroying an abandoned tank was not uniquely german. Part of the standard sherman load out was 2 thermite grenades. When abandoning a tank you didn't think could be recovered the idea was you used these to set off ammo and fuel or just slag the gun and engine. |

In the Tiger 1 of the demo charge was in the engine and when it went off it tended to blow the turret bin 'up' and flatten it on the back of the turret. A very distinctive marker. |

I would like to think that scuttling charges could be operated after abandoning the interior of the tank, but that seems to be asking for trouble from brave infantrymen climbing aboard. UK, let's go for a delayed fuse…… |

I agree about the humor of the German narrator: I enjoyed his You Tube about Sturmgeschutz abteilungen as he gets to the support units. "This may seem too complicated, but perhaps you are not GErman enough!" GdeP |

The end of the war. I believe many more tanks, ships and planes, were scrapped or even just dumped somewhere than were ever destroyed in Combat. Cheers! |
