I received this book for my birthday. It's not inexpensive, but it's a fascinating look at life on campaign during the 2nd Afghan War. The author was a war artist "embedded" with the Peshawar Valley Field Force, employed by the London Illustrated News. For me, the artist's sketches and paintings bring the period to life better than the stiff, posed photographs of the time. The book is also full of reference for buildings and terrain for the wargamer.

Yes, a great prize indeed for the Second Afghan War/NWF gamer in particular, and military/art history buffs in general! What a great gift, my friend -- someone knows you well! Thanks for posting this, Nick, it will inspire me to take my copy (which I'm sorry to admit I had to buy for myself) down off the shelf and give it another read/viewing!
