Is it just me, or is there an anomaly in the rules for infantry base sizes in Saga 2e?

We're told that round bases have to be at least 20 mm in diameter. We're also told that bases are allowed to by maximum 30 mm square, and at least 20 mm square. Now, a 20 mm square obviously won't fit a 20 mm circle – in fact the smallest circle it will fit into is just over 28 mm in diameter. The upshot would seem to be that round bases are restricted to a very narrow range of diameters, but that can't be intended – if it were, the line about 20 mm minimum diameter wouldn't be there.

I guess what they're effectively trying to say is that an infantry bases has to fit inside a 30 mm square and have a minimum dimension of at least 20 mm: is this the general understanding?

That sounds reasonable; a couple of us have recently started playing "A Fantastic Saga" and haven't worried a lot about base sizes. We've got warbands mounted to WRG 5th based individually, GW 20mm and 25mm square, GW 25mm round, some with precut wooden tags from the local craft store (about 1" x various)-- it all seems to work just fine.

I wouldn't worry about basing size

Infantry bases have to be between 20 and 30mm, round or square. I use 20mm squares, but it really doesn't make much difference

Hmmmmmmm, first off it's a skirmish game. Every Saga game I've played the bases are never touching. With Saga2, if one casting makes contact with the enemy all the castings are considered in contact. I don't see a problem here.

I am with Joe, why worry about the basing…

Just play the game.
