The city of Ciudad Rodrigo featured large in the events of the Peninsular War and was laid siege to by French and Allied armies.

Good post. Very informative. I was in Spain this year as well, but only saw Cuidad Rodrigo from as distance as we hurtled towards Salamanca.

The most evocative of places. Far more so than any of the battlefields, in my opinion.
