I recently completed the mammoth task of making 600 pine trees for a Battle of the Bulge game I've been planning for some months. The method is by the great guys at Little Wars TV and works really well. There's more info and photos on the method at allhellletloose.co.uk Now I can relax. At least until the might of the German spearhead hits the Twin Villages!

I thought I was the only one loony enough to make up hundreds of 6mm pine trees…

This was a custom 4x4 board I made for a Parker's Crossroads Scenario. There are probably 600-700 pine trees on this board. The lighter colored ones on the bottom of the last pic are commercial snow pines from JTT or somebody like that, there's 100 of those on this board, I was getting a little tree happy I think… I made it a couple of winters ago when I lived in Chicago. The winters there were long, cold and provided plenty of time and inspiration. |

Wow ScoutJock that is awesome. I'm a firm advocate of the "you can never have too many trees" school of wargaming. Beautiful boards. I really like the way the density varies. I'm in awe of the level of dedication to making so many but having them on a specific board. Consider my hat tipped sir! I think the thing is when you know you can do something well it seems wrong not to. Thanks for sharing. |

S J…I WILL use words like Wow! and Awesome! …and I remember the photos of wargame tables for 25mm Naps/ACW that made me drool back in the 1970's! ;) |

For most use, however, C T M …yep, excellent…I think a good mix of bases with various numbers of trees is much more flexible. Only…unless I put them in the garden, where am I going to put the still bagged trees I already own when they're based!!! I'm falling over 'stuff' getting to the computer! lol. Such is life! Good work guys! |

Hi HH, thanks for the positive feedback. I keep my trees in trays that stack on a shelf. The advantage of small trees is that a 46mm deep tray is tall enough to put them in. The mrs does complain about my stuff spreading though! |

The mrs does complain about my stuff spreading though! My Mrs. thinks my miniatures hobby is just fine. This, despite boxes of terrain (buildings in one, trees and foliage in another), a bunch of elevations not in boxes, a whole foray into casting supplies including resins and latex for molds and steeling some of the kid's duplo blocks to make mold holders, and keeping a ping-pong table in the garage when no one in the house plays ping-pong, and cases of scale models. Cases, and cases. - Ready Forces: Post-WW2 armies - Ready Forces: WW2 Armies - Ready Forces: WW2 French and Romanian Armies (WW2 Armies wouldn't all fit into one case) - Ready Forces: Aircraft (see note above about not all fitting into other cases) - Ready Forces: Coastal sea craft (see not abo… oh ferget about it) - Modelling Supplies – paints - Modelling Supplies – plastic sheeting, Styrofoam, etc. - Modelling Supplies that I am actually using in current projects (other supply boxes are too big to lug into the house). - Game tools (tape measures, lasers, smoke markers, flame markers, casualty markers, etc.) See, I don't have a sailboat, or a water-ski boat, or a private plane like some of my buddies. And I gave up sky-diving decades ago. And I stopped collecting WW2 guns a long time back. "A whole $12 USD for some tanks that will fit in your pocket? Sure honey, you go right ahead." Now, as to my stuff spreading -- yeah, she's maybe not so happy 'bout that. But she doesn't complain too much. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |
