1) If you use agitators in your paint bottles, how many do you use? I just learned recently that many painters use two small ones – is that doubly effective, partially effective? 2) If you only use one, does size matter? I bought glass beads and one fits just past the neck opening of my dropper bottles. Don't smaller ones drop down into the nozzle clogging it when tipped down? |

I use small glass beads. I put two in a jar. I think it is more effective. |

I put 1 in my Vallejos but I am putting 2 in the Scale75 and Army Painter. They are 6mm I think. |

I'm experimenting with them. I never thought they were really necessary but I think I'm getting better coverage from the paint which would probably be down to better mixing. I bought a bag of 200 5mm stainless steel ball-bearings. I've put one in a Vallejo bottle and two in a Derivan 36ml bottle. I've only put them in bottles that are about 75% used up so when empty I can see if there is any rusting. I'd have thought that they would sink to the bottom of the bottle and this should prevent rusting but we'll see. If there is any rust I'll try glass beads instead. |

Steel BB do rust but so what ? I have that happen all the time and I've never seen any noticeable change in the colour of the paint. I have two somewhat rusted ones in my white paint that have been rusty for a month or two – it is still white paint. Rust is a poor pigment with minimal tinting power and the amount produced by a small BB is tiny. It isn't a problem you need to worry about. |

Now I've heard that two glass marbles will chip and break up. So two ss ball bearings has all the bennies and no downsides. |

lead fishing weights for me, I like the irregular shape, thinking they will get in the corners better… (yes lead oxidizes, but is covered by the paint so doesn't worry me, and I don't lick my brushes) |

I thought that lead fishing weights had been banned. I do know that they are considered a pollutant here in the UK. |

Steel ball bearings, nuts, and bolts? in GLASS bottles? What's wrong with giving the bottle a few good shakes at the beginning and then closing it and giving it another good shake every so often? I've NEVER done what's being suggested here nor have I ever heard any of my local friends doing it. |
