I wargame WW1 Eastern Front in 28mm. I have German infantry and cavalry, Russian infantry and cavalry but only have Austro-Hungarian infantry. I wonder if anyone has suggestions for both mounted and dismounted Austro-Hungarian cavalry. Don't necessarily need a perfect match and am willing to modify existing figures e.g. have used Turks as the basis for Bosnians in fez. Only thing that comes close at the moment are French Dragoons from Great War Miniatures but they do not do dismounted figures. So I wondered if anyone had done this before and could offer advice. |

1914-15 mainly, but for late war I could probably use WW1 German cavalry. |

Old Glory 15s/Battle Honors/19th Century Miniatures as linked by Jeff Ewing, is the only source for 28mm Austrian Cavalry that I know of. Hopefully someone will reply with more information. If I may ask, what figures are you using for your Russians? |

I know that this question tends to annoy some members, however, do Old Glory 15/Battle Honors' figures (advertized as 25mm) match-up well with the WWI 28mm figures offered by other manufacturers? |

I recommend considering the Polish cavalry of the Polish-Soviet war as a basis for conversion. The base uniform is Austro-Hungarian. Horses and riders can be purchased separately. link

Dear Big Red, I am using Copplestone figures from their Back of Beyond range – a mixture of Whites, Reds and Cossacks. I have also toyed with the idea of using some early war British cavalry from Great War Miniatures or Footsore although I must say the Siberia miniatures suggested by Cuprum2 also look the part. For A-H would probably have to changed the heads to those wearing dragoon style helmets. I am not up on the plastic ranges of 28mm figures are their any that may be suitable even from the Napoleonic Ranges? |
