I hope Steve won't mind me Tangoing him again, but he's given us another thought-provoking and well-written and -illustrated AAR, this time from the Balkan Wars: link The battle sees a couple of Greek divisions well endowed with evzones struggling through mountainous terrain to get to grips with a Bulgarian force of lower qality but dug in with QF artillery. This was a leap forward of a century from his previous Wavre game, but using the same ruleset (BBB). I particularly enjoyed his reflections on the shocking effectiveness of modern firepower, and of having to adapt tactics to the new weaponry and try not to 'fight the last war'. The Dioran scenario is from Konstantinos Travlos's 'Bloody Big Balkan Battles!' campaign book for the Balkan Wars: link (If I remember right, I think Professor Travlos may have been an evzone himself.) Tough terrain and modern weapons made this a really interesting scenario to play out. I'm now learning a lot about this area of warfare I knew little about previously thanks to the BBBB scenario book. |

Is the place name Doiran? This is where the 1917 battle took place as well, I think. Robert |
