Hi All,
Just had some questions about this game. So I went out and bought some wild west miniatures from Old Glory oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=613 website called 'Blue Moon'. I painted them up and am planning to buy more. Even got my 3.5 y/o son to roll some dice with me. Got 6 old style buildings done and off to playing. Finally the fun after all the work.
So I am using RWNN since they are freely available eg my web search duckduckgo.com/?q=%22rules+with+no+name%22+pdf&atb=v164-1&ia=web. First link for the curious. So all is good.
In an effort to familiarize myself with the rules I have now played shootout at OK about 5 times and beefed up the cowboys slightly to make it more even (gave Ike a gun, etc). One thing I noticed is that like most wild west rules they are brutal. In the first game I played (with my son as the dice roller no doubt), the Cowboys drew the first card and shot at Wyatt (I made him a Legend since in the collective consciousness he is (cinematically)). But, blammo, brains splattered at the jump. Seems as though giving the Earp faction an advantage that is not minor does not help all that much, haha.
So I made a few changes to the rules. I gave that in the scenario, if yer gun wasn't drawn then when drawing it you had to to the first stage of the fast draw rules if the target were above your rank. So drawing on Wyatt if you are a gunman would give Wyatt the opportunity to intervene. Seems ok thus far. Anyone have a similar issue or rule modification? Any feedback is appreciated.
Also, I gave aiming a +1 on the damage roll dice. Did not think aiming was that worth it otherwise. Again any opinions? I thought it worked ok (no one used it tho yet).
My paramount question is that if character gets 'knocked out', like in my case a character got knocked out due to belly shot I think, does regaining consciousness on a roll of 6 means roll only one die (the rules did not specify what to roll unless I missed it)? Being a legend or shootist does not matter? I am not sure here. Any insight is appreciated.
Lastly, I am looking into other rules too. I see something called fist full of lead reloaded is only 6 dollars pdf so I might get that. The new 6 gun sound looks good too, but the pdf costs the same as the print almost? Anyone know if you buy the print do you get the pdf?
So please feel free and encouraged to discuss any of this here. Looking to hear from anyone and any good advice and stories. = ) Take care.
PS in case anyone asks, gunslingers were not killed; I told my son that they were out of the game. haha
