Just for fun and for those dying to get into Napoleonics but lack the $$$ or time (like most of us) . . .

My tome for the week. This franchise is kinda what I call the Anti-Total War series. A real time, miniature gaming presentation BUT really, REALLY big on historical realism. From reload times to battlefield smoke to formations to the optional HITS process (the player only sees what the actual commander sees from his position on the ground, otherwise you rely on couriers or you physically have to move your Headquarters In The Saddle). Visually stunning in a 15 mm sort of way, eg, the 2D sprites can't compete with TW, but at a distance the massed formations are incredible.

And BTW, for pewter diehards there is also a pretty generic AOE scenario I did for WI on la Souffel at link

Funny I just saw that review yesterday or was it earlier today.
I've played all the games, back to the first take command 1st bull run game when it came out.

But Waterloo put me off, they did it on the cheap, the engine was just to old, and it's to much ACW, over it, trying to force an acw engine to do a napoleonic game was only half successful. Particularly the cavalry suffers. It's also been worked on so much there are redundancy codes upon redundancy codes leading to horrible performance.

They should have built a new game from the ground up. Too many cut corners and compromises. That said, it's still the best napoleonic computer wargame out there.
