From the trailer it looks as if they may cover the crypto/sigint aspects as well as the actual naval combat:

Most of the combat scenes in the trailer are in Hawaii. Let's hope the movie is actually about Midway…

WW2 done à la Independence day, could be fun!

The sales pitch is truly juvenile but whilst I'm sick to death of CGI the movie itself could be quite reasonable. It's good to see some well overdue naval action.

Looked far too OTT for my tastes – definitely the online gaming version of Midway.

Looks good to me. Thanks for posting! I look forward to seeing it in November.

Pearl Harbor part deux.

I'll watch it as a beer and pretzel movie and not be too critical.

I already know how it ends anyway…

The butler did it!!

But, but, but … the butler? Kinda has a strong alibi -- wrong harbor at the time of Pearl, wrong ocean at the time of Midway, no?

I hope there aren't any girls in it. Ick.

From the write up it covers Pearl Harbor attack to Midway. Main Characters Nimitz, Halsey, Layton, and the squadron commmanders of carrier Enterprise. Article said they learned their lesson on pearl harbor movie and what to avoid….Mainly concentrate on Dick Best, Wade McClusky and how over 6 months they went from peacetime to combat roles.
I will miss seeing Hal Holbrook as Cmdr Rochefort and am not sure how Woody Harrelson does as Nimitz.
I'd rather see CGI ships and planes than 2000 era modern ships Story on USA Today

Oh man does that ever look like garbage. But I still plan to see it.

There's a second Midway movie coming out called Dauntless, looks interesting.

So, rather than Col. Mustard in the pantry with the
candlestick, it's Adm. Nimitz in the ocean with a
CTG…

I´m happy that Midway gets a reboot, as the one from 1976 is truly awful, but from the trailer this looks suspiciously like the catastrophic Pearl Harbor, especially the mosquito-like characteristics of the CGI aircraft.

I´m not saying I won´t watch it, I even made it all the way through Fury, but I think in the end the time would be better spent gaming it out on the table. :)

Well, at least they don't have Sruance class destroyers going up in an atomic fireball or Essex class carriers with angled decks. They appear to have got their ships right for once.

But the dude looking at a photo of his woman while dropping a bomb on a carrier? Duh?

At the beginning of the trailer, a woman, presumably in Honolulu, has a dish washer?

Japanese Zeros gleefully strafing downtown Honolulu? What for? The concierge at the Sheraton caught them stealing towels?

Insane. But it shows what they could just, potentially, have done, if only they had shown some commonsense.

Tora, Tora, Tora, Battle of Britain, even Dunkirk on a smaller scale showed the drama that can be created by showing real planes flying as real planes do. Are we so dumb that we need X Wing fighter performance from WWII aircraft?

The earlier Midway was ruined by the romantic story line and use of spare film from TTT. Rotten aerial filming anyway.

Now Final Countdown. That was different. F14 Tomcats flying like real jets against not unreasonable Zeros, with a great music score. Shame about the rushed end. There are sexier things than a modern US carrier deck….but not many and she does not make films any more anyway.

Didn't see any dishwasher, however did see a simple wire dish strainer sitting in the sink.

Guess that helps explain how oilers get reported as carriers and all German tanks get reported as Tigers.wink

Zeros had little to do in the battle as few of our fighters got off the ground. Many went on strafing runs and a few made their runs over civilian areas. These areas were not part of the original targets but I guess some pilots needed something to do. In an age without CNN and cell phone cameras it is hard to know exactly what happened during an entire battle.
