What is your 'go to' paint for generic Caucasian flesh tones? Specific brand and paint name, please.

Pictors Studio26 Jun 2019 5:48 p.m. PST

Either GW Cadian fleshtone or Tamiya Flat Flesh (I buy from two local hobby stores, one of which stocks GW and one Tamiya)

I pretty much always use a sepia wash over the flesh

Folk Art "Sunflower". One caveat, though: I apply The Dip, so the Sunflower does darken, overall, with the dark washing. I use Minwax Polyshades Urethane Stain, Royal Walnut color.

Rememeber: if you apply a dark wash, you need to apply a "flesh" color perhaps two shades lighter than what you want the finished color to be… Cheers, Bill!

Tamiya Flat Flesh for now.

Have some Gaeseti that I painted Testors Flat Light Tan. A bit toasty, but then when the pale shinned northerners run around au naturel in the Sun…

Will be trying some craft paint flesh when the tamiya runs out.

I usually use Folk Arts "Cappuccino" for basic Caucasian skin, but sometimes go with Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals "leather" or Vallejo Model Colors "light brown" depending on ethnicity.

There is no "Best" Caucasian flesh paint but a lot of good ones. I like to have a good number of different ones to hand and they all get used.

Paints mark as flesh are the largest group on my paint table.

I start with brick red and work up towards a cream highlight.

My go to is a blend of Vallejo's Ivory and tan earth.

I have been using Testor's 'Warm Skin Tone' as it is pretty light so a wash over it works well (ie Army Painter skin tone or Agrax earthshade – anything works as the Testor's is quite light and also has pink to it so a regular wash/dip works).

That said, I've been on a continuous journey to find a nice covering flesh tone (P3, Vallejo, Testors, Gunze Sangyo, etc, etc, etc and I haven't found one I really like – I would prefer a well covering colour, 1 coat, that is not too thick so I do not have to apply multiple coats).

With JimDuncanUK, mix your own. All fleshtones, really … it's best if they don't all match.
