Does anyone one has an idea how many French Eagles were captured during the fighting and capitulation at Bailen in the summer of 1808? i know at leat some were taken and hung in the local cathedral and later removed (bij Soult?) in 1810. were all these eagles captured after the surrender or were some taken in Battle. i know the French had several "provisional regiments" at Bailen, I doubt if they had been issued eagles but I am unsure. Any help welcome

The best sources that I have found for the French eagles is both General Regnault's study as well as Charrie's.

At least one of them gives a listing of the eagles' lost from 1805-1815.

French provisional units were not given eagles. New regiments were usually not either until they had proven themselves.
