Hey all,

I have an interest in a fairly obscure conflict- the Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979.

I already have a ton of PAVN from Battlefront, but am struggling to find suitable Chinese troops in 15mm.

Does anyone know if any manufacturers make these miniatures? Or, can anyone think of a a stand in that might be suitable?

I do know that the Chinese did not wear metal helmets yet, so the figures will have to be something in soft caps ala Korea.

Admittedly I am no expert in this but I will try to add my 2 cents. Are you sure the Chinese didn't wear the metal helmets yet? An image search suggests the Chinese wore both caps and helmets. The uniform appears to similar to 80s Soviet but with puttees instead of boots.

Hey there!

Not 100% sure- but I was reading in a document entitled "How China Wins" this past weekend that the Chinese starting wearing helmets in the early 80s, right after this particular conflict. May have read it wrong or maybe the source was wrong.

There are youtube documentary clips out there, using real film from the time. There are a lot of shots with Chinese troops wearing helmets. You can definitely use helmeted minis !

Yes they did. If I remember correctly, they wore a copy or a modify copy of the Japanese World War II infantry helmet. You could use head swaps of Japanese World War 2 infantry. Place them on 80s Russians or NVA and then paint accordingly.
