Historicon's in a new venue. Where do you recommend I eat? Breakfast and dinner mainly.

Thanks

I forget the name but the restaurant in the lobby of the Cork Factory Hotel is terrific.

The farmers market across the street is good for walking around and a quick bite. And right next to the market is Spring House Taproom. It's small, but has good food and beer.

In a separate thread, a Lancaster area native extolled the virtues of the Himalayan Curry place 1 block north.

Those stroopies look good. May have to pick up a few tins so that at least one of them makes it back to Canada.

So I see this about the Sweet Shoppe and figure, I'm safe, it's probably blocks and block out of the way.

It's right across the street from where I plan to park.

Dooh!

I'll be out at FTIG next week. I'll let you know. I'll drive that way on my way home…

Cheers;

Commonwealth on Queen has good breakfast options and good coffee and tea. Issei noodle house is a block off the square and has good noodles. Himalayan is pretty bland and overrated IMO but is probably your only option for Indian food nearby. Rice & Noodles has great Pho and Vietnamese cuisine but is out past the Amtrak station, but if you're into that it's worth the trip.

Lunch at market has lots of great options.

The best coffee in Lancaster is Passenger right off the square. Thistle Finch Distillery also has some great spirits if you're in the market for some good hooch.

Out near F&M college is a great Thai place called Sukhothai that's my favourite.

Hope that helps!

The farmers market across the street is good for walking around and a quick bite.

Yes, Central Market is kitty-corner from the Marriott. It will be open 6 AM -4 PM on Friday and 6 AM – 2 PM on Saturday. Not open Thursday or Sunday.

Many different stands with deli items, breads, sandwiches, salads to go, and of course fruits and vegetables, some of which are local and/or organic. Some souvenir stuff, too, if you're into that. And the best fresh-made horseradish in the state. Take this from someone who is not a horseradish connoisseur but likes to brag anyway.

Rice & Noodles has great Pho and Vietnamese cuisine but is out past the Amtrak station, but if you're into that it's worth the trip.

For something closer to the convention: Sprout at 58 N Prince St, Lancaster, PA is affiliated with Rice and Noodles. Same family, same great food. They're open 10 AM – 9 PM Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Also near F&M is Awash Ethiopian restaurant, at 1027 Dillerville Rd, Lancaster, PA
Open 11 AM – 9 PM Thursday. Friday and Saturday.

Commonwealth on Queen has good breakfast options and good coffee and tea.

Second Commonwealth on Queen. By the way, it's open 7 AM – 3 PM Wed, Thu, Fri; 8 AM – 2:30 PM Saturday; and 9 AM – 2 PM on Sunday.

Also recommend On Orange Restaurant, 108 W Orange St, Lancaster, PA. NOT OPEN THURSDAYS. Open Friday-Saturday-Sunday 8 AM-1 PM.

Now that the Con is over, along with the controversy, what culinary experiences did you have in Downtown Lancaster?

How was the Marriott food compared to the Host? Farmer's Market?

We ate twice at The Lancaster Dispensing Company, next to the Farmers' Market. Highly recommended, great Pub Food at a reasonable price. Was pretty busy, had a short wait both times. Old style, tin roof type place.

Once at Shot and Bottle. Just across the street. More upscale, eclectic, but good cuisine. All local PA spirits. Very good but a bit pricy.

What say you?

I only got to eat out a couple of times, but downtown Lancaster had some great variety.

Old San Juan -- Puerto Rican, midprice, had a very fine dinner of pork carnitas, plantains, and rice.

Issei Noodle -- nice, inexpensive bowls of ramen noodles with a good range of broth and meats. Very filling.

Silantra Asain -- a rice bowl and wrap (bing) place. Again, not expensive. Build to our taste from healthy to not. Good stuff.

The Central Market (when it was open) is a great choice for variety. My choice for coffee and breakfast.

Nice find, Walt.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice article and captures the great diversity of food within a short walk of the venue. My wife is already talking about coming again next year…

Sad I missed both these. Will remember for next year!

We agree that the The Lancaster Dispensing Company was wonderful Great service in spite of the convention crowds.
We ate at Yorgas Greek Restaurant on Queen Street between the Marriot and the Holiday Inn. Good food, good prices.

The Lancaster Dispensing Co. was great
Ate there twice.
