One of the eras most fascinating characters and, along with Sir Sydney Smith, one of the underrated enemies of Napoleon.

I want to believe that he was at Austerlitz, perhaps even at the council of war on 1 December. He was an aide to the Emperor in 1812, but what was he doing between 1800 (he fought at Marengo) and 1806 (marrying Italian princess after seducing her away from her husband). 1805 seems to be a time when a general and scoundrel would be sorely needed.
