Has anyone had experience playing either the original 1st edition by FASA, or the later second edition rules of this quasi RPG set in World War II?

I'm curious if the rules were good or not? I see it come up for sale from time to time and wanted to ask if anyone could give details on this game?

I loved First Edition. We played using 54mm figures which worked extremely well and cut down on the temptation to put too many soldiers into action--especially AFV's!

Second Edition improved somethings, but took away a lot of player in-put to play, so while helpful, 1st Edition is the way to go.

Haven't played in a long time, but that's not the fault of this remarkable rules set.

Played 1st edition many years ago and really enjoyed it.

1st edition was the best of the two.

Loved it back in the day. Bought a copy for nostalgia's sake a while ago, but not certain whether rules stand up to time.

Used to play the first edition way back when. We had a lot of fun with it.

Introduced this to my d&d group back in the day. being kids, they hated it, as they knew nothing about real squad level tactics and chafed at the idea of a squad or team leader and a chain of command, or to work as a unit. They wanted d&d with SMGs and lots of individuality. The game was too realistic for them. It lasted one session.
