Hi.

I'm a frequent miniature painter. For some arcane reason, plain forgetfulness or mental issue, I frequently find that I've bought the same paint bottle several times.

It's usual to have two copies of Burnt Umber or Brown Beige. But when I discover I have several copies of German Orange, Ocean Grey and many other colors I start thinking I need Marie Kondo for my too many colors.

Do you have similar issues?

8 grass green,9 uniform blue..but only one black…aaargh!!!

Having had this problem I carry a list of the colours I've got. I do have some spares in stock for when I run out of colours I use a lot.

Torquemada24 Jun 2019 2:37 a.m. PST

Yeah, I do, but it's normally intentional. Right now I have 6x bottles of Tamiya dark yellow compared to 1x bottle of everything else. I just get through so much of it.

Me too. Partly prudence--not wanting to run out between trips to the game shop--and partly forgetfulness, as in "which yellow am I low on?"

It's gotten marginally better since I started keeping the paints in big trays.

Yes, based on usage.

I have done that but not very often.

panzerCDR24 Jun 2019 6:36 a.m. PST

Yes. Too often. Do I need more 826 or 872? Better buy both to make sure . . . Over the years this adds up.

Yep – in my case, somewhat purposeful as there are two places I paint and also since it is a pain in the butt to get to where I buy paint I stock up on colours I use a lot

Thresher0124 Jun 2019 7:07 a.m. PST

Of course, sometimes accidentally, but mostly on purpose, since you don't want to run out of the important ones.

Yes I have this problem.
Two years ago I thinned out my paint collection, and gave a load to a mate who I know is on a tight budget. I called it a lead cross parcel.
hasn't stopped me buying more though. :-/

+1 "sometimes accidentally, but mostly on purpose"

Grelber24 Jun 2019 8:46 a.m. PST

From time to time, I'll see a really great effect somebody creates using a brand of paint I don't have that much of. Instead of checking, just in case, I'll go out and buy the appropriate bottles, only to find that I already had a bottle of Vallejo Desert Yellow (or whatever).

Yes.

jdpintex24 Jun 2019 9:22 a.m. PST

Yep. Like PanzerCDR, I buy extra because I'm not sure what I have.

It has gotten so bad, that I spent a day putting all my paints in an excel spreadsheet so I know what I have and then I ordered what I really need off of Amazon Prime.

Timmo uk24 Jun 2019 9:23 a.m. PST

Yes, I've done that in the past and not just with paint, I've bought figures in the past that I've thought I 'needed' only to find I already had them in the lead pile.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP24 Jun 2019 4:38 p.m. PST

Done that a number of times…bad memory

No longer interested25 Jun 2019 1:33 a.m. PST

I've done the same as Timmo. I discovered recently I had more than several copies of Bashi-Bazouks and Egiptian chain mail cavalry and I cannot remember when did I bought those. Or sudanese Infantry, found another 20 I don't remember buying.

I have somehow managed to avoid this problem— so far.
