Given that serious hobby gamers don't blink at spending hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on their gaming experience, it's not surprising that a niche-within-a-niche industry has sprung up to supply custom accessories at premium prices. link |

Back at one of the Denver club mini-cons 10 years ago one of the members ran a War of the Rings game. Custom table and locally written rules set. It was originally put together for a well to do enthusiast in Castle Pines who paid $25,000 USD for the game to be run for himself and 4 friends. The creator kept the game board and pieces (hence getting to play it at the club gratis). People spending rather large amounts of money on hobbies is not new. |

What a fantastic Middle Earth board. What scale are the figures please and what rules were used? Very inspirational. |

Has anyone seen the news article re: some new gaming craze using minis, cards, and computers. They also sell some specialized gaming tables, some as much as $15,000 USD? |

Hi Board was 16 ft by 16 ft and split into 2 halves. 10mm scale with Warmaster/Copplestone figures. Rules were a modified version of the SPI game War of the Rings. Bill D |

Geek Chic tables sold for around $2,000 USD – $20,000 USD+. Most custom game table makers are making imitations of his designs. Prices are all over. They can be quite an experience to play on, though. Given the chance, I'd play on a custom table every time it was offered… Don't knock it until you try it! Cheers! |

It's too bad that the article doesn't have a picture of the $2,700 USD game table. |
