I don't finish a game/period, I just circle back, sometimes years later and add in a unit or two here and there.

This was for a Sleepy Hollow game – Ichabod Crane to be the protagonist. Several headless horsemen, animated scarecrows, pumpkin creatures constitute his opponents. I needed bodies of citizens to take up arms to aid Crane so I didn't paint these as Lexington Green militia which is (mostly) how they are sculpted. Now that's out of the way, I present to you what I call "the red unit". They join the Black & Tans, the Blues and the Browns. They will later be joined by the Greens and the Grays totaling 60 figures.

Here's the preview:

And here's all the Sleepy Hollow entries so far: link

I think the kids will like playing this one.

Good looking figures. I do prefer the eyes on the later figures. I think they're one of the toughest things to paint.

I shall never quite understand painting eyes. It's easily the hardest thing to get right. And, from a gaming point of view, pointless.

What's the average distance from your eyes to the figs on the table? Probably 2-4 feet, right? If you were looking at a person who is 25mm tall in your visual field, at full scale they'd be maybe 100-200 feet away (I'm spitballing here, I haven't done the math). Would you expect to be able to see their eyes at that distance? No.

At one of my first games a good painter and a great guy fielded a 15mm ACW army with painted eyes. At 3' I can see their eyes clearly. It was like the whole army was in a state of abject surprise. It was creepy.

Eyes should only be visible if you were doing presentation figs, to be handled and examined within inches of one's face. Otherwise, why bother?

Just my tuppence.

If it's sculpted I paint it. I also start with faces – it's as if the figure implores me to continue once the faces are done.
