How do you depict "shattered forest" on the tabletop?

Who can paint one off Victorian Scifi figures and is able to develop his or her own resources to capture the colors and styles. I am specifically thinking of the new Highgate miniatures.

Like I said they would be the new 28mm London Highgate Miniatures. Think of Ripper St with Vampires and Werewolves.
