They apparently had plenty of gunpowder for mining, but I do not recall reading about artillery. If they had had artillery support, I think they could have overrun the French fortifications easily, no matter how brave the defenders. |

The Chinese army did have artillery, both cannons and mortars. As I recall the French fort was positioned in such a way that access was difficult and limited the number of troops who could attack at any one time |

I answered my own question. Yes they had artillery. Probably Krupps. |
