Its the latest theory. Like so much from that period, its hardly definitive.
I can't really imagine many of the larger battles between the Vikings and Saxons without the Vikings using a shield wall.
Heck, there's an Old Norse word for it.

I would assume that ANY army deploying large shields used a form of Shield Wall (not necessarily always, but whenever it was usefull) – no need to make it a Norse thing.

That said, these are fine minis – as typical for V&V. Once they hit my local retailer, I will get me a set.
