Hi all

Who does the best figures, compatible with 1/76 vehicles, for the above theatre? I would be looking for German and British / Commonwealth infantry. Heavy weapons also needed.

I could get by with Airfix German paratroopers and mountain troops painted accordingly. I am not at all sure about other Germans or about any British / Commonwealth at all.

I'd recommend AB figures.

SHQ are 1/76th scale, they`ll mix well with old Airfix.

Also check plastic soldier review if you want plastics :-) link

Shq are the best size match and are closest to compatibility with plastics.
Ab are slightly bigger and more 1/72 than 1/76 but arguably the best looking figures available.
I think your best plan is to get some samples and see the real thing in your hand.

AB

Have you looked at Dan Taylor's figures? These work very well for 1/76.

thanks all, SHQ were completely not on my radar. As Andy O'N says, maybe look at some…

If you want to go with plastics, quite a few of the Caesar sets scale well with 1/76. In fact for British / Commonwealth they are the only option apart from Airfix 01703 (not 01763, which are too tall) and Matchbox. Here you can see Airfix 01703 (leftmost), Airfix 01763 (2nd from left), Caesar (4th from left) and Matchbox (6th from left):

SHQ are great for mixing with plastics

Probably too early for you, but the original Pegasus Germans are 1/76. There may be some stuff in there you can use

If you specifically need 1/76 and not 1/72, then I'd say SHQ for metal figures. The ranges are comprehensive and for British and Commonwealth they often have the option of the 1944 "turtle" helmet.

I really love AB and they have extensive ranges, however they are larger than SHQ which are 1/76.
However if you are consistent with all the figures, AB would look fine with 1/76 scale vehicles.

I do have 1/76 vehicles and thus the smaller the figures the better, plastics having an advantage here.

AB….

The earlier NWE British and Germans will be fine with 1/76th. Though the new Winter British and Germans maybe too tall for you.

The AB vehicle crews should work well with 1/76 as I believe that was the scale Tony preferred! I've used them with 1/76 Matchbox, Milicast and Cromwell kits and they look fab. Not so sure about the footsloggers though. For pure 1/76 I would take Airfix or Matchbox as per Hornswoggler's guide above. Not seen the Caesar figures before, but they look rather nice!

Matchbox, Caesar and Airfix for British/Commonwealth.

Matchbox and Airfix Germans are early war.
