I noticed a local used book store has a number of the Sharpe books on hand. I've read a few books by Bernard Cornwell now and I find I like them, so it's time to check out the series. What order do you recommend reading them in? In the order written? Chronological? Pick the best few and fill in the gaps later? If so which do you recommend, they probably have a few gaps in their selection right now. Thanks! |

Get the 'Sharpe Companion" and the "Sharpe Companion-The Early Years" by Mark Adkin. A joy to read and they will help you decide the reading order. |

If you do not want to tackle the whole list from the start, I would recommend the following as the best of the bunch: Sharpe's Eagle Sharpe's Honour Sharpe's Waterloo If these do not whet the appetite, then do not bother with the rest. |

I have Ben looking at my used book store for a long time and only see one once in awhile, usually none. Sharpe's Regiment was there but looking for at least early ones. I have only read Rifles I have on ebook. |

Sharpe's Eagle is by far the best episode of the tv series, I assume the book might be equally good? |

Great series, I read them every other year. |

I have always wondered about how many books there are and what the order is/should be. Chronological seems like the ticket to me anyway. Thanks TNLM for bringing this up, and thanks wackmole9 for the list. |

As they say on "Desert Island Discs" (UK radio programme broadcast since 1942) "If you could save just one…?" - Sharpe's Enemy. |

I'm somewhat cool on Cornwell's books. I think his nonfiction work on Waterloo was a good read but have heard it's for novices on the subject and slightly biased to a British perspective. Of the Sharpe tv series, it starts out strong then gets rather silly. I agree that Sharpe's Eagle may be the best of the tv episodes. |

Must admit his non fiction work on Waterloo was so riddled in basic errors that it put its whole credibility in doubt. |

I got a slew of new videos from the making of the movies/series. They are called Harris. Hard to sell on-line since they do not have an isbn number. Maybe 8 in the collection. |

I have collected all the series except the Company and Waterloo. Mine is Harper Collins edition whose cover is wonderful! |
