I'm looking to find STL files of ancient galleys that I can print. So far I've only found one that suitable on thnigiverse and am hoping to find more. |

There are other places to get free STL files. Google "best places to get free STL files" and several people have made lists. Thingiverse is the best, imho, for several reasons, but some of the others have some great stuff. Or we may just have to make our own. |

My friend and I found a galley stl file on wargames vault a while back that had a commanders awning, tower, mast, oars and a multi-section hull. link We left off the oars and mast, combined the two end sections with two middle sections for the hull into one and printed them in about 1:1200 scale to go with some cast metal galleys we already had. We varied the lengths to match those in the WRG ancient naval warfare book and the number of towers per galley to designate the class. Mounting them on some re-scaled top down counters that came with the Corvus rules from the society of ancients gave us a fleet of about 800 ships. a couple of the metal ships are on the left side of the first picture. lengths varied from 40mm to 25mm in 5mm increments with 30mm for the triremes.
edited to include link to stl files. link |

Great stuff. A hint of what will be produced in the years to come. WilliamB – good approach I have been trying too to get models for massed battles. The one you found – Halfmanhalfsquid – seems very clean for same purpose. Would that I had the patience to start with Rhino etc… |
