I've always been partial to Michael Hordern. Of course Morgan Freeman is legendary, but Sean Bean and Liam Neeson also rock.

So who is in your opinion the best narrator ?

Any classically trained actor – but I still love Sir Lawrence Olivier in the 'World at War' series!

An honourable mention to David McCullough, for 'The Civil War'.

Brian Blessed has a few narrator credits and is joyful to listen to in any role.
Richard Burton and Peter Coyote are other great choices.
Not sure if Richard Briers in Roobard counts…
