Some early pics of the upcoming 20mm Waffen SS in the M43/44 Pea dot uniform. This was a lightwieght cotton two piece camo uniform. As it was neither very warm nor waterproof its most commonly worn over the standard tunic, pullover or in warmer times over the shirt. Some of these figures won't make the cut being replaced by the 15 new figs just being finished. The figures are done in a mix of uniforms underneath and carried gear. This first batch have been painted using the AK Pea dot set.
this is the NCO figure from the prone set
This second set painted in my usual Humbrols
The sitting figure is one of the gun commander options from the tripod MG 42 set.

Great job on the uniforms. Who makes the figures? |
Lion in the Stars | 08 Jun 2019 2:10 p.m. PST |
They look really good, Leon! Which paints do you prefer, the AKs or Humbrol? |
Gunner Dunbar | 08 Jun 2019 2:50 p.m. PST |
Great paint job, and nice looking figures, how do you find brush painting Humbrol? Obviously you are good at it, I can never keep a point together on my brush, maybe I've used the wrong type of brush, what I like is that there is very little difference in the look of your AK and Humbrol figures, wouldn't have known if you hadn't told us. |

Scoman, Late German gas canisters are normally a variant of sand yellow or dark green. So those are just painted with either of those then heavily washed with black to catch the detail in the casting with a bit of 'chipping' ( taking the paint off with the tip of a scalpel) around the sharp edges. In humbrol 237, 149 in acrylics Life colour dunkel gelb anbd dark green from the vehicle set. Gunner Dunbar, been using enamels for 50 odd years so dont have to think about it, use red nylon brushes for enamels only use sables for horses, nudes and much bigger (54mm +) figures, personally reckon they are wasted on smaller stuff not unconnected with the fact that I'm hard on brushes ( ie kack handed…..) Lion in the Stars, Really cant say yet, certainly the AK ones are better than the acrylics Ive used. Got another large batch to do so time for more practise with them. Still not entirely happy with the flow properties. FlyXwire, Worst punn I've heard all week, free postage if you order anything lol L |

Those look fantastic Leon! If I may, what color did you use for the wood funiture on their rifles? |
LeonAdler | 10 Jun 2019 4:43 a.m. PST |
wrgmr1, For the acrylics Life Colour UA 729 which I got with the Guns colour set,the set is designed for 35th scale really so I'd sugest that the complete set is not worth it for the smaller scales, though of course always possible that other more experienced acrylic users might be able to make better use of it. For the Humbrol 113 and 70 mix as I remember. Hope that helps. Irish Marine, They are an upcoming release from Adler Miniatures 20mm range link L |

Can I be a miserable soul and say that the painting of the camouflage is great, the animations really well done and the end result will be the among best 20mm Germans available? But is the helmet right? On so many it looks more like the modern US "Fritz" style. A bit small and not deep enough over the back of the neck basically. The prone NCO is an especially superb figure nonetheless. Minor nit picking and interested to hear if anyone agrees |

Leon, it was great to see you at 'Attack' & have a chat to find out about what you have planned. As I said at the time I am looking forward to the Support Weapons coming out for the Pz Gren's & Waffen SS, and will be buying some once they are available. If they are availale for 'Crisis' I will definitely be after some. |

Great work Leon. Both painting and sculpting. |

Devizes was a fun show, next up the Other Partizan and then a bit of a break till Crisis. Always nice being able to pick peoples brains in person and to judge reactions to stuff. Design time always in short supply but hope to have some additions ready for the Crisis show. Andy ONeill and all thank you. L |

Hi Leon, I love these guys. Excellent work. It's a real pity re the casting problem, as I was all keyed up for purchasing them at T'Other Partizan. Let me know if you sort that out, and put me a full set by, as I'll definitely be purchasing them if they are available at the show. |

Hello all, As some of you may know the policy re the message boards and producers has recently been changed. This means apparently I'm no longer able to post WIP or previews on new releases. Anything that is concerned with 'selling' has to now go onto the Hobby News board. So in short it means that I'm not going to be on these boards to pick your brains, get brickbats or hear your suggestions. I believe this is to prevent non paying makers ( I am an paying advertiser) using the message boards as free advertisments. Fair enough but the consequence of course is to severly limit the exposure my stuff gets one here. In the past I've just bundled up the effect of adverts and message board presence into one effect and the small cost seemed worthwhile. Now having to rely entirely on the direct adverts I will be able to judge the cost effectiveness of just them. I'll try to find the time just to post 'hobby' stuff but as very often though it might be something from say Dragon it will have a figure or something from my range in the pics so I suspect that wont be acceptable. So not likely to be on very much. L |
deadhead | 18 Sep 2019 3:47 p.m. PST |
Get someone to paint your figures and show them as your work (as with your first postings above). Or be prepared to have them reviewed by an independent assessor. Like that 1/72 plastics forum does. I said way back in this thread just how much I liked these (as a visiting Napoleonics follower) but did say I thought some, one or two, figures' helmets were a bit too like modern US "Fritz" ones. That is a "warts and all" added value posting, which IS allowed. No one criticised the New Policy more than I did, but I now see that it may lead to better quality introduction of new products. You cannot show the basic product. You can show what it might look like with some work(ie painting) or tell get someone to tell us what they think of it (independently) re modelling, casting, anatomy, posing, novelty, compatibility etc Do not give up. Think about this further. I am a late convert and my only complaint was the lack of communication initially. |
LeonAdler | 19 Sep 2019 1:10 a.m. PST |
Thank you Deadhead, Unfortunately I dont think your interpetation of the new rules is the correct one. Quite frankly I cant be bothered to expend the time and effort required to 'get around' the new system. For now I'll just stick to adverts on the Hobby News section, see them dissapear in less than a day and judge whether its makes sense to continue paying for the adverts. All I can see at the moment is that its potentially going to make the message boards much less interesting and visited. L |
deephorse | 19 Sep 2019 4:22 a.m. PST |
I'll still visit my favourite message boards, I just won't see any new stuff there. Reduces the value of coming here enormously. Hope I see you elsewhere on the ‘net Leon. |

Hi Leon, when are the rest of the Waffen SS references be ready to buy? I bought all your Heer refrenceces from Lehr division, and want to get all the wafer SS ones, I´m from Spain. Thanks. Jose |
LeonAdler | 02 Oct 2019 8:40 a.m. PST |
Hello Jose, Next out in Oct will be the HMG sets folloed by the 81mm motar set in Nov. Theres a batch of panzerfausts and a panzerschreck set in the works but no release date for these fixed. L |
Guderian111 | 02 Oct 2019 10:12 a.m. PST |
Thanks Leon, and what about the HQ. Officer and NCO set? |
LeonAdler | 02 Oct 2019 1:06 p.m. PST |
Those are sets that just get worked on along with other stuff as they are small sets so no specific timetable for them. Production demands/trade shows always eat into design time so always tricky having a detailed release plan. Hope that helps. L |
