These are some pictures of Bob Black's 28mm Ottoman army/collection. Whenever we have a game there are a lot of hits on the blog and I convinced him to get all his collection of 28mm figures on the table in one go. Normally we just have a selection. I make no apologies for the number of picture, just that they do not do justice the the view in real life. abcwargamers.blogspot.co.uk |

Now that's how a wargames army should look. I think it's a great idea to parade the troops and see the collection as a whole. Well done! |

"thanks for the positive comments. It was good for me to see the army laid out – I think we've only ever played once with the entire army on the table. Of course this isn't EVERY single Ottoman figure – there are odd figures from a variety of sources including some turbanned fantasy guards and emirs. Also some stands of prisoners (Redount's F&IW captives lead by a Turk) to be rescued. One of the most interesting and unpredictable armies we play with" Bob |

You need to fight the "what if" of the battle between Suleymans invasion force and the assembled might of Charles V of 1532 some time. I certainly would love to see that scenario on the table… Some background: A "skirmish" force made up by some 15000 Akinci was trapped and destroyed at Steinfeld, but the main forces where hold back on both sides – well, mainly by Charles until Suleyman had to retreat, who on his side did not progress to Vienna that year, thanks mainly to the defenders of Kőszeg. Claim number some 120.000-200.000 on the Ottoman side and 80.000 on the Imperial, including many Spanish, Italian and German veterans of the Italian wars.
A decisive outcome on that one – either side – would have changed European and Ottoman history considerably… this is the first Ottoman army I have seen on the table worthy for that scenario. Splendid and impressive! |

Hi Puster Thanks for the interesting scenario. Will certainly look at this and Koszg. There is a Robert Howard story Shadow of the Vulture which has his hero and the real Red Sonja fighting Suleiman's Turks. Can be found in the paperback Sowers of the Thunder – a good read for any Turkophile. Thanks for taking the time to explain the scenario, and the compliment. Bob |

Always a pleasure. I am certainly inspired to pursue my own quest of an Ottoman army further. Keep TMP informed of any games you played with that army! |
